How is the heading calculated?

The estimated heading of a vessel is calculated using the geometrical shape of the vessel. When the vessel is moving, the wake can also be used to estimate the heading. Sometimes it is not possible to calculate the heading, e.g. the shape of a small vessel detected on a low-resolution image may not be clear.
