Copernicus is a European Union Programme aimed at developing European information services based on satellite Earth Observation (EO) and in-situ (non-space) data. The Copernicus services transform this wealth of satellite and in situ data into valuable information that is streamlined through six thematic streams, one of which is Security. Within the Security stream there are three different services: maritime surveillance, border, and support to external actions. The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) is the Entrusted Entity responsible for implementing the Copernicus Maritime Surveillance (CMS) service.
