On 24 September, EMSA’s Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) was deployed off the coast of Cyprus to conduct a survey of a sunken barge.
The ROV carried out a detailed underwater survey of the wreck, providing valuable imagery to assess its preservation status, focusing on the tank air vents to visually detect possible spills. Furthermore, the ROV conducted specific measurements on specific equipment.
The operation was safely conducted under the operational control of the Shipping Deputy Ministry of Cyprus, in coordination with the Marine Accident and Incident Investigation Committee of Cyprus (MAIC), and the Vasiliko Terminal Services.
This successful deployment underlines the importance of close cooperation between EMSA and national authorities in strengthening maritime safety across the EU.
