The EMSA’s Academy part-time course for Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) inspectors commenced on 3 November and ended on 23 November 2025.

The course was designed to provide the basic knowledge on the Maritime Labour Convention and the steps to be undertaken to ensure compliance.

The latest amendments to MLC 2006 as well as an understanding of the basis for flag and port State inspections were also part of the course’s programme. A dedicated learning area on flag and port State inspections was devoted to the guidelines on flag and port state inspections adopted by the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The course was delivered in a blended mode with three live sessions and was attended by representatives of the EU MSs, of the ENP and IPA countries beneficiaries of the EU financed projects for technical assistance implemented by EMSA.

The last of the three live sessions,  held on 19 November, allowed the EMSA subject matter experts and the participants to have a fruitful discussion on Title 5 – Compliance and enforcement of the MLC convention.
