To mark the Day of the Sea, the Port of Porto Nogaro reached out to young people through the “Faces and Traces of the Sea” project, which involved a whole range of maritime and environmental stakeholders in the region.

The "PlasticOcene" exhibition in the centre of the nearby town served as a bridge between the urban centre and the port area. Supported by scientific partners including the World Wildlife Fund and the Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics, the large-scale installations demonstrated the impact of plastic pollution, effectively linking industrial operations with the preservation of lagoon biodiversity.

In collaboration with the Caritas Delegations of Pordenone and Udine, the project highlighted the human rights and welfare of seafarers. Activities included specialised sessions for the National Civil Service and interviews with maritime workers, which underlined the port’s role as a space for social inclusion.

Additionally, over 1,000 students from the region, aged between 4 and 17, visited the port area in a series of structured sessions designed to increase their awareness of the maritime environment and how sustainable practices are being implemented via first-hand discussions with pilots, tugboat captains, and Coast Guard officers.
