FORA 2025
Italy

Through its 2025 Chairmanship of the European Coast Guard Function Forum (ECGFF), the Mediterranean Coast Guard Function Forum (MCGFF) and the Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS), the Italian Coast Guard gathered coast guard authorities from around Europe and the world in Rome.
Taken as a whole, the three events served as a strategic platform for promoting environmental awareness and sustainability within the global coast guard community. Environmental protection, ocean health and sustainable maritime governance were addressed as key priorities.
The fora (the ECGFF, the MCGFF and the CGGS) were important institutional and operational events, bringing together delegations from the coast guards of multiple countries. Within the ECGFF context, participants actively shared best practices related to sustainable operations, while the discussions in the framework of the MCGFF raised awareness of how operational activities can be conducted with greater consideration for environmental sustainability.
The CGGS covered topics including maritime security, ocean protection, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and law enforcement. Sessions on ocean protection and decarbonisation, in particular, emphasised the importance of more environmentally friendly maritime operations and a stronger international commitment to safeguarding marine biodiversity. Additionally, discussions on digitalisation and artificial intelligence demonstrated how innovative tools can support environmental monitoring and enhance maritime domain awareness.
